Everything you need to know about ToothPillow assessments and treatment.
What is Toothpillow?
Toothpillow is a preventative, pre-orthodontic treatment that corrects and supports proper jaw development, promoting nasal breathing and preventing — even fixing — dozens of health problems down the road.
What is an airway focused dentist?
Airway dentists concentrate on the relationship between the structure of the mouth and respiratory function. They specialize in identifying and treating airway and developmental concerns in children.
How do I know if my child is a candidate for treatment?
Complete our free assessment questionnaire and upload photos. You'll receive personalized feedback from a licensed provider about whether your child is a candidate for treatment.
What age groups does Toothpillow help?
This treatment is most effective for children between the ages of 3 and 12, during the years when jaw and airway development is most active and responsive to guidance.
Will my mouthpiece help with crowded or crooked teeth?
Treatment focuses on airway and jaw growth promotion, which may create space for teeth to align naturally. In some cases, additional orthodontics might still be needed for final alignment, but the complexity and duration are often significantly reduced.
How long does treatment last?
Duration varies by starting age and case severity. Your provider will estimate a personalized timeline based on your child's specific needs. Most programs run between 6 and 18 months.
When should I expect to see results?
Visual changes typically appear in 3–6 months with good compliance. Sleep and breathing improvements are often noticeable within 6–9 months.
Is Toothpillow covered by insurance?
Insurance coverage depends on your individual plan. Contact your insurance provider regarding orthodontic benefits and coverage limits. We can provide documentation to support your claim.
How can I refer people to Toothpillow?
Referrers receive a $100 gift card for each referred patient who accepts treatment. Referred patients also receive $100 off their treatment cost.
What qualifies your doctors to treat my child?
All of our doctors hold current dental licenses and have completed advanced training in the field of airway and dental sleep medicine, specializing in pediatric growth and development.
How often does my child wear it?
The appliance should be worn 1–2 hours during the day and overnight while sleeping. Consistent wear is key to seeing results within the expected timeline.
What is the Toothpillow appliance made out of?
The material of our Toothpillow appliance is made of BPA and latex-free medical-grade polymer, designed for safe and comfortable daily use.
What are some benefits of nasal breathing?
Nasal breathing filters airborne particles, humidifies inhaled air, and produces nitric oxide which improves oxygen circulation throughout the body. It also supports proper facial and jaw development.
How do I store my Toothpillow?
Always store the appliance in its case when not in use. Keeping it visible — like near your child's toothbrush — helps prevent forgotten wear and lost appliances.
How long will my Toothpillow last?
With good compliance, the suggested treatment duration is typically two years. The appliance is designed to hold up through the full course of treatment with proper care.
How do I keep my Toothpillow clean?
Brush the appliance daily with antibacterial dish soap using a disposable brush, or use fluoride-free toothpaste. Rinse thoroughly before each use.
What happens if I lose my Toothpillow?
A $100 replacement fee applies. Contact support and your provider will resend the correct size appliance for your child.
What if I feel like my Toothpillow doesn't quite fit?
Message your doctor through the app's messages tab for adjustment assistance. Your provider can guide you through fit adjustments or arrange a replacement if needed.
Does it cost to get a replacement case?
Your first replacement case is free. Additional replacement cases cost $10 each.
Is there any risk of forming an underbite?
No — we've never had that happen in hundreds of cases. The appliance is designed to guide natural growth, not force the jaw into unnatural positions.
What if my mouthpiece makes my teeth hurt?
Initial soreness is normal and actually indicates the appliance is working as intended. This typically subsides within the first week. Contact your provider if discomfort persists beyond that.
When my child wears Toothpillow, they cannot close their lips. Is that okay?
Yes, this is completely normal during the adjustment period. The small dots on the appliance serve as closure goals while promoting nasal breathing. Lip seal will improve as the muscles strengthen.
